That was right.
Tori continued.
“Well, on top of all of this, the cop who had been working it didn’t do his due diligence and might have done the killer a huge favor—temporarily,” Tori said. “We found out that the three women who died first WERE tied to him and it didn’t take much to do it.”
Julian shook his head.
“I don’t like cops like that.”
NO.
ONE.
DID.
They ran up against sketchy law all the damn time, and it was frustrating.
When Tori’s phone chimed, she pulled it out.
It was a text from Bodhi.
Someone had an update for him, and his timing was impeccable as usual.
‘Tor, I checked out the morgue and the bodies. The doctor let me read over the files. He was spot-on with it. The women went into the water, floated downstream, and that’s basically all there is. I also scanned the evidence report, and you’re forensically shit out of luck. I’m sorry. The new victim had zero trace on her too, and some minor predation. Other than that, there were no defensive wounds. TOD was exactly like you’d expected, and COD is asphyxiation. I wish I could give you more, but there’s nothing. The snow, wind, and thick coats did the killer a favor. Someone crushed her ribs, and I’m saying that was from kneeling on them. That’s not consistent with the first three victims, but they weren’t fighting on a slippery surface so… As for me, I’m heading back to the hotel to see Hailey. If you need me, let me know—Bo.’
Oh, they would if they needed him again, but as it looked, they’d saved themselves from needing a coroner.
That was a win.
Because they were curious, Tori told them what Bodhi found—and what he didn’t find.
Bishop sighed.
She was leaning against her husband, whose hand was on her ass. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t want a little get away with him.
Maybe a baby making holiday.
Before she could say anything, something had their attention.
There was sobbing from somewhere in the ER bays, and it was clear the two women were hashing it out.
Someone was breaking up with Brooklyn, and no one blamed her. She’d been done dirty, and it nearly cost the woman her life. Her cheating partner had really jacked this up.
Julian knew the next step.
“We need a plan to narrow it down. If you have him in your sights, we need to move before he, or whoever did this, sees that their attempt failed.”
Yeah, they really did.
Julian was NOT wrong there.
Only, they couldn’t just accuse Cyrus of being a killer. They could try to get him in for an interview, but the prints on the journal would take time.
Time they didn’t have.
Right now, they had motive, but they didn’t have proof.
Before Tori could say anything, Brooklyn Ashe came storming out of the ER bays.
