How did he get that to happen to him?
Someone was definitely protected from the insanity that was their life.
“Hey!” Tori said, heading toward her husband. When he spun her in a circle, he found her mouth with his and kissed his wife.
God.
He’d missed her.
So much for sneaking up and molesting her in the middle of the night. It appeared that would have to wait. Maybe they’d have to take a little trip now that all the chaos was handled.
When he broke the kiss, his wife ran her fingers over his cheeks.
“You’re a sight for sore eyes.”
He nuzzled her with his cheek.
“Victoria, I could say the same. I missed you so damn much, Honey. I hate being apart from you. It’s not the same. I can’t breathe without you.”
She understood.
They were a team, and now, because she knew him, Julian was going to try and steal the case away.
She’d bet on it.
Well, that and Bishop gave her a heads-up that Julian was worried about how it was going—since his name was on this circus.
Walking him over, Tori introduced him to their newest team member. Well, soon-to-be team member.
“This is Detective Genesis Manning. I hired her, and you’re going to let me keep doing that.”
He laughed and slapped his wife on the ass.
“Don’t bet on that, Victoria. One good hire doesn’t make you HR. You have impulse issues.”
She laughed.
Ehhhhh, he wasn’t wrong.
“It’s a pleasure, Detective.”
Genesis shook his hand.
“Are you going to take back the job offer?” she asked. “Because I’m up shits creek here. Once this case is over, there’s no doubt my boss is going to cancel my two weeks’ notice and tell me to pack my shit and go.”
He laughed.
“No, you’re hired. I trust my wife with my business. She likes working with you, and my partners do too.”
Tori snorted.
“What he means is Lucian and Ridge already told him it was safe, and that they have been backseat control freaking this.”
Ridge laughed.
That said it all.
Tori nailed that one on the head.
