Only, something was telling her staying here was a bad idea, and she wasn’t starting anything with someone who lived here.
“Like I said, Will, I have to get this wrapped up. As for a date, I like all of those things.”
He grinned almost triumphantly.
“I’m just glad we’re getting to work together on this case,” he admitted. “You’re not an easy detective to lock down. I usually have to deal with Jon.”
She laughed.
“Well, he’s busy being cranky.”
Will smiled.
“Well, fate must have wanted me working with you on this case. Everything lined up. I must have been a good boy in a previous life.”
Her skin crawled.
Not that good of a boy.
“I guess. Send me an update if you get one today,” she said, trying to be nice even though she wanted to say something snarky about pressuring women to date him.
Before she could, he was talking again.
“Do you still want that ME of yours friends to take a look at the bodies?” he asked. “I’ll consider it a favor for you.”
She really wanted to say some shit.
Only, this was about the case and now four dead women, and a possible fifth who was missing.
“Uh, sure,” she said.
A favor?
God.
She wanted out of this town in the worst way. She’d just grab her dog. Fuck the clean underwear. She’d rather wash them in a truck stop sink than be around here.
“Well, send him in when he’s available. I’m pulling a late night. Not that I mind working this case for you. It connects us.”
Yeah, no, it didn’t.
Someone was insane.
“See you later, Doc,” she said, getting away from there as quickly as possible.
Her phone chimed.
“HE’S. CREEPY.”
She laughed.
“Is this Trey or Bethany?” she asked. “Because I agree with whoever this is.”
“IT. IS. TREY. WANT. TO. BE. BESTIES? I. RECENTLY. LOST. MINE. SHE’S. GETTING. MARRIED. CAN. I. DRIVE?”
Honestly, curiosity got the best of her.
“Uh, sure.”
