“The wife?”
“Jessamy is loaded. She has a trust fund that would make a rich dude weep. She’s the ONLY child of the judge, and the judge was the only child of the rich man.”
She let her talk.
“So he gets ballsy, offs the three, goes for the wife. She disappears, and then he thinks… shit. I’m on the news and in the media spotlight.”
“So he offs another woman to change the narrative?” Tori asked.
Genesis nodded.
“What’s the best way to distract the media?”
Tori knew.
“You hit them with different news to distract them from the other situation. You sleight of hand them.”
She waited.
Tori thought it through.
“Again, you have a point. I can’t argue that theory. My only thought is where is the wife though?”
Genesis gave her the next opinion.
“We know the ground and lake was frozen last time, so he changed it up. He dumps the body here just next to the woods.”
“But she’s by the lake.”
“Yeah, but she looks like something predatory dragged her. Then, the big snow comes.”
“And you think the person was changing it up, but this was his safety zone?”
She nodded.
“What if he wants us to think this victim is from a serial killer this summer, and he believes we can’t tie him to the dead women?”
Tori sat there.
“Okay, I get what you’re saying, but it feels too off to me. I’ve worked a lot of cases like this. We need more.”
On that, they both agreed.
They needed to get Cyrus in interview, and that was going to be almost impossible. All the evidence was MIA.
“We don’t have a missing person report on Marny,” Genesis said. “All we have is that you saw her yesterday, and please don’t mention that in front of my boss. He’s giving me the hairy eyeball already.”
She could see that.
“Can we get something from the ME that maybe we don’t know?” Tori asked. “Something forensic?”
That they could do.
Why not try?
Heading toward the man, Genesis noticed he was grinning at her, and that made her skin crawl.
“What does that guy you want to set me up with do for a living?” she asked. “Please don’t say ME. I was good with that career for a person until this one got locked in on me,” she said.
