When she kissed him this time, her hand slid up his thigh, and she intimately stroked him through his dress pants.
His body reacted.
How could it not?
When they heard their salads being put down, then, and only then did he break the kiss.
Oh and it was regretfully done too.
“Sorry,” Jana said, giggling. “I didn’t want to interrupt you.”
It took Bexley a second to focus but she somehow managed to remember that they were there for a reason.
They had work to do.
“Before you go, Jana, we’re working with the police on a case. Did you know a woman by the name of Tiff Dunmore?” she asked.
That was all she had to say.
The woman sat down across from them at the mention of her name.
“Oh, God! Is that who was found last night? It’s been all over the news this morning,” she said. “That’s all that has been running with the exception of the lawyer whose wife is missing. He was pleading for her return.”
They hated to be the bearers of bad news, but they needed to be.
“Yes, it’s about her,” Bexley said, keeping it to the point. “Can we talk to you about her?” she asked again.
Jana nodded.
“Absolutely. I want to help.”
That worked for them.
“Did you know who she was dating?” Bexley asked as Raven made notes so they could share with Tori and Bishop.
The woman sighed.
“No. All I knew was he was taking good care of her. I’m not going to lie, but I was a little jealous. I saw her texting him one day, and it was the kind of love that you looked for yourself.”
They needed more.
Bexley and Raven knew that the other half of their team was trying to tie the attorney to all of the missing women. They suspected it was the same guy who had been messing around with Keri Hester, but they needed more.
“And no name?” Raven asked as he and Bexley began eating their salads and doing the interview at the same time to keep it lowkey.
Jana thought about it.
“She just called him Mr. L. That’s all. I do know that he came here to eat a lot. I just never had him at my table. I guess that’s how they met.”
She was trying to keep this light and not make the woman suspicious. It appeared that the girl didn’t put two and two together. The lawyer on TV was pleading for his wife’s return, and also had a last name that started with ‘L’.
“When was the last time you saw her?” she asked. “Do you recall? I know it was a while ago, but anything can help.”
She thought about it.
“No, I remember. We went and got bikini waxes. She went au natural. She said he liked it like that. That was the Monday before she went missing. That Wednesday afternoon, she was supposed to work the same shift as me, but she never showed up.”
The woman got emotional.
