The three of them walked toward the door.
“We’ll check in on you later,” Tori said. “Or, better yet, text me anything pertinent. After checking on the guys, we’re going to the crime scene and then the courthouse.”
It appeared they had a busy day still ahead, and it wasn’t looking as if it was going to get any easier. They were months behind.
“Be careful out there,” Raven said. “One scratch on you, or if Trey tries to gamble downstairs…Julian is definitely losing it.”
Trey wasn’t amused.
“OH. DON’T. GAMBLE. TREY. IT’S. AN. ADDICTION. WHAT. ELSE. AM. I. SUPPOSED. TO. DO? THE. STRIPPERS. WERE. A. NO. YOU. SAID. ALCOHOL. WAS. A. BAD. IDEA. AND. YOU. DIDN’T. WAN’T. A. DRUNK. DEAD. SOLDIER. WITH. PTSD.”
They all laughed.
What the man didn’t get was that was his burden.
Not.
Theirs.
As they headed down the hallway, Tori sent a text to her husband, updating him on the case.
She knew he was a control freak, and he would want to know what was going on.
“Jules?” Bishop asked.
She laughed.
“Yeah, by now, he thinks I’m taking the city apart brick by brick. It’s best to keep him in the loop.”
Bishop didn’t argue that.
Tori typed up a quick text, and hit send.
‘We just found out that one of our suspects is being questioned as of late regarding his wife’s disappearance. Cyrus Lawley just popped onto our radar. He’s a big wig here, and his father-in-law is in the state supreme court. This is going to get tricky. I love you. I’ll call you when I can—V.’
She hit send.
Tori knew he was likely sitting on his phone. It only took ten seconds before her husband replied.
Oh, and it was a Julian reply if she ever saw one.
‘Victoria! Don’t piss off judges! Make sure you’re one hundred percent on this one before you go at the man! We don’t need bad media attention. I can’t leave you alone for a day. I love you too. I miss you—J.’
The entire time she was reading it, Tori couldn’t help but be amused.
Of course, her husband was going to get worked up over the possible upcoming altercations. He didn’t like when they poked powerful people.
It never ended well.
Mainly…
For them.
“Is he okay?” Bishop asked, pulling out her key card, and tapping it to the door to get them into the room.
She reassured her friend.
“Yeah, he’s just being Julian. He heard judge and lost his mind.”
