Hailey was honest.

She refused to pull the wool over his eyes. Her marriage to him was valuable, and honesty mattered.

“It will get worse, or so the Littlemoons tell me. The dead get angry, and then there are moments where they can get downright demon-y.”

He stopped dead in his tracks at the ‘D’ word. Maybe he’d heard her wrong.

“Pardon?” he asked.

She looked scared when he stared into her eyes, searching for good news when she couldn’t give him any. Finally, she had to know.

“Is the wedding off?” she asked. “Is this the deal breaker where you run screaming from me?”

Oh, hell.

“Hailey,” he began.

Only, he didn’t say no, and that scared her.

Hailey went there.

“I get it,” she said, moving away from him. “I can’t blame you. You didn’t sign up for this,” she said, putting more space between them.

Then, she did something terrifying.

Hailey turned and ran down the hall toward the room, using her key card to access the room.

He was left behind.

All she wanted to do was escape. Hailey couldn’t believe her happily ever after was crashing down all around her.

Only, he wasn’t having it.

She was in the door with it closing when Bodhi caught up, just managing to get his foot in the door before it locked behind her.

When he went in, she was standing there.

Hailey was staring at the picture he gave her, and there were tears on her cheeks.

“I understand. I’m sorry I wasted your time. It’s my fault this is happening. He’s my dead husband.”

Bodhi wasn’t giving her up.

“Hailey.”

He just needed to adjust. He’d found his other half, and he was holding on for as long as he could.

Only, there was an obstacle.

At her distress, the room around them got really cold, and when she turned, she saw Jake.

Jesus.

She saw him and she wasn’t dreaming. He was in the mirror, and she saw him moving toward Bodhi with rage on his face.

Oh, hell!

He was going to hurt him.
