Basically, he’d give them whatever they wanted, including two detectives’ jobs.
“Okay. What is it?”
Lucian was succinct.
“My clients want to help solve this case. They feel compelled, and they want to show up your asshole misogynistic cop who verbally abused them. This is about saving face. They sat in your holding tank for the whole night. That’s embarrassing.”
Almost as embarrassing as it was going to be for the cops when they solved this.
This was girl power at its finest.
On top of this, the man couldn’t say shit, and he knew it.
Once the word ‘abuse’ came into play, it was done for that police precinct. This was about mitigating the outcome so that they all kept their jobs and out of the media spotlight.
The captain went there.
“With one condition,” he said.
Lucian laughed.
“Did you not just hear me say our only offer and no negotiation?” he asked. “I think I was clear.”
The man nodded.
“I did. The only caveat is that they have to work with my detective. I can’t let this go wild. There has to be some oversight.”
Was he kidding?
“If the Deputy Director of the FBI can vouch for them, and call you personally…”
He shook his head.
“No. Then sue us. Because one out of control cop to me is the same as a bunch of out-of-control non-cops. I’m taking heat any way I look at this, and I’d rather not be accused of letting civilians running amuck.”
Bishop crossed her arms over her chest.
“Uh, I’m an actual cop.”
The man stared at her, and she knew he was measuring her words against what she looked like.
Oh, he was as big a douchebag as the one that put them in lockup. There was no doubt there.
“If you say so.”
Bishop opened her mouth, but Tori stopped her. They were on the cusp, and Bishop, when pissed, was vicious. It took a lot, but when she went over…
She.
Went.
Over.
Instead, Tori acquiesced.
“Deal. We’ll work with your detective. In fact, she can stick with me and Bishop. We’ll let her help. Bexley and Raven will do research and check in with us.”
The man held out his hand, thrilled that he’d made this deal happen.
