He shook his head.

“She’s not in until noon. Noon till nine. That’s her weekend shift. That’s our busiest and it’s all-hands-on-deck.”

Well, they’d have to come back.

Because she wanted more, Tori jumped back to the topic of his girlfriend.

“Did you guys live together?” she asked. “Not you and Jana, you and your girl.”

Bill shook his head.

“Nah, but I was contemplating it. I mean, I thought we had something special. I was clearly wrong. She was doing me dirty behind by back.”

There was rage there.

It was crystal clear.

Someone did not like the ‘lawyer’ or his girl for what she did to him.

“We’re sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you and your lady,” Bishop said, not trusting the dude.

Maybe she was suspicious, but he worked with a woman who went missing, and so did his girlfriend.

Someone was currently at the top of her list.

Why?

If it smelled sketchy, it was sketchy.

“Thanks. Can I get you guys that drink now?” he asked, looking around at the other patrons to see if they needed anything.

“Well, no, but you can answer one last question,” Genesis admitted.

“Sure,” he said, focusing on her.

“Did she by any chance mention that someone was following her, or that maybe she felt off?” she asked.

It didn’t take long.

Immediately, he shook his head.

“No. I will say she was always super protective of her ‘work’ phone. She wouldn’t let anyone near it. She didn’t have issues with her personal phone, and that’s why I suspected something, but I never could get my hands on her second phone.”

They didn’t say anything.

Why?

Because they already suspected that the lawyer had given his side piece a burner phone to use in communication with him.

He wiped the bar down and focused on them.

“Drink?” he asked.

Yeah, they were on the clock.

Bishop declined.

“Actually, we’re good. Thanks, though.”
