Money. Galactic units on untraceable tokens. Just what I need to get out of here.

Stealing from a trained mercenary will be tricky, but I have to try. I need that money. Ellen needs it.

Once I manage to capture his gaze, I finish my drink and give him a challenging look, hoping he’ll take the bait.

Faelin

Only as I enter the bar do I realize I should have dropped Tareq’s stash box back on the ship first. People have been killed for less money than I’m currently carrying. However, I don’t want to waste time returning to the Supernova now, not when I’m so close to the human female.

Not wanting to attract attention, I don’t look for her the moment I enter. Instead, I head for the bar and order whatever poison they serve here. I don’t really care. After I’m certain no one finds my presence here suspicious, I look around properly. And there she is.

She’s sitting at the other end of the bar, a dozen feet from me. Our eyes meet as I gawk at her and she returns my dumbfounded look with a sultry smile, the tip of her tongue darting out of her mouth to moisten her luscious lips. My cock stiffens immediately and I grip the bar to stop myself from getting up and going after her. Instead, I take a moment to appraise her from afar.

She’s a beauty. Very different from Tareq’s Astra, but in a good way. She’s taller than Astra and stronger-looking. Her beautiful hair spreads around her head like a black halo. And her skin…

Astra is pale beige and to me, she always looks a little sickly even though I’ve been told it’s a normal skin color for her kind. This female’s skin is the most beautiful shade of dark brown I’ve ever seen and it glows with health. Golden patterns swirl all over her body, but I think those are paint or tattoos and not part of her natural coloring.

As I watch, she gracefully raises her glass, finishes her drink, then cocks her eyebrow at me.

Right. I’m supposed to buy her a drink. I order whatever she’s been drinking, then practically stumble off my chair in my haste to get to her.

I grip Tareq’s stash box under my arm, contemplating again dropping it off at the ship. I shouldn’t be walking around with so much money. But who’s to say this female won’t be taken by the time I get back? She’s so beautiful I wonder how she hasn’t been claimed yet.

I can keep the money safe, I decide. I’ll just talk to the female, then head back to the Supernova. Who knows? Perhaps she’ll want to come with me.

I arrive at her chair just as the bartender places a fresh drink down in front of her. She smiles seductively again and I shift the stash box to cover my bulging pants. How does she affect me so much? I’ve never craved a female this much.

“Thank you,” she says, her voice soft and melodious.

She’s using OmniSpeak instead of one of the Earth languages, which makes sense. I’d understand her if she spoke human, but most people don’t have Earth languages downloaded into their translator nodes. “Er…” I should say something, right? “You’re welcome.” There. That’s a good answer. “I’m Faelin.”

“Faelin.” She plays with my name on her tongue in a way that makes my cock twitch in my pants. “I’m Nala.”

“Nala,” I repeat, unable to come up with anything smart to say. Damn, I’m making a fool of myself. “You’re human.”

Her giggle is different from those sultry smiles from before. More earnest. This is the real Nala laughing, not the person she pretends to be. Even though she’s laughing at me, I don’t mind.

She smothers her giggle but is still grinning widely. “You’re observant,” she teases.

“I am.” If it makes her laugh again, I’ll go along with her teasing. “My brilliant observation skills also tell me you’re female.”

Nala snorts into her glass. “You’re funny, Faelin. I like you.”

I know she probably says that to all of her potential customers, but I don’t care. I love how she says my name. “You don’t have to use OmniSpeak with me,” I tell her, wanting to make her feel more comfortable. “I have over 7,000 Earth languages downloaded into my nodes. You can speak whatever feels best for you.”

Her smile disappears, replaced by a scowl. “Why do you have those languages?”

I feel like I’ve said something wrong, although I have no idea what. “We have humans on the ship,” I explain, “so I—”

The glass clinks on the bar as she sets her drink down. “I’m leaving,” she says, glaring at me with such hatred I’m stunned. “Don’t follow me.”

As I watch her storm off, I shake my head in disbelief. By all the black holes in the galaxy, what the fuck just happened?!

Chapter 4

Nala

I storm off, feeling like an idiot.
