And though she wasn’t one to jump into bed with someone so soon, she had to tell herself to go with what she was feeling.

As she’d been saying tonight, things work out the way they should.

NORMAL DATING LIFE

“Heard you’ve had a few busy weekends.”

Aster turned his head to see Ivy standing in the doorway to the barn where he and Zane were getting supplies to bring to the plant.

He was actually surprised it’d taken this long for anyone to say anything to him about dating Raine.

At this point, it’d been two weekends he’d spent doing...activities.

There was one activity he’d like to do, but he wouldn’t push either. That wasn’t his way.

“I have,” he said.

Zane grinned at him. “Anything you want to share that I seem to be missing that Ivy knows? Ivy only knows things from other women when it comes to dating. Like a mini Poppy.”

He’d heard all about the one sister who could sniff out a romance a mile away.

But again, it’s not like he was hiding anything.

“I’ve been seeing someone,” he said.

“Good for you,” Zane said, lifting a few two by fours. Aster got some more and followed Zane to the back of his truck.

“Don’t you want to know who it is and how I know?” Ivy asked. She was all but doing a little dance around the doorway but staying out of their way.

“I know you’re going to tell me,” Zane said, smiling. He didn’t remember Zane being that happy of a guy before. Not the commander who led them into battle. The one who told Aster he was the man that was needed on his team.

It’d been hard to have that much responsibility on his shoulders, but it felt rewarding at the same time.

He never wanted to let Zane or his team down and worked twice as hard.

Guess things came full circle like he’d always believed. You got out what you put into this world.

Not that he wanted to be shot for that to happen, but hey, you couldn’t control it all.

“Aster has been dating my future sister-in-law, Raine.”

He turned to look at Zane and saw the eyebrows lifted. “Really? That’s interesting.”

“How?” he asked, frowning.

“Because Raine is a ray of sunshine despite her name and you’re not so much,” Ivy said.

“Kind of like you and Brooks,” he said.

Ivy frowned when Zane laughed. “I wouldn’t say you’re as grouchy as Brooks,” Zane said. “Sorry, Ivy. No offense.”

“None taken,” Ivy said. “But Raine has had practice dealing with her brother her whole life. He’s going to want to meet you. Don’t worry, I’ve had nothing but good things to say about you.”

“You don’t know enough about me to say anything bad,” Aster said, smirking.

“You’re right, I don’t. But we also know Lily is selective about who she hires and you’re friends with Zane so you’re a stand-up guy. Plus I know Brooks trusts Raine.”
