“I need you to come, sweetling, because I’m not going to last. You feel too fucking good.”
Her gasp/moan combo reached down and squeezed his balls in a velvet vise. He shifted his hands under her and pulled her tighter against him.
“Don’t stop,” she whispered desperately.
An army of archangels couldn’t stop him at this point.
Her head fell forward onto his shoulder and her fingernails clawed at his back as she finally—finally!—came, screaming his name (he was sure the few unbroken windows left in the house wouldn’t survive), her body tightening and pulsing around him.
That’s when he lost what little control he had left.
He came so hard he actually got a little lightheaded. Buried as deep within Lane as he could get, with his heart pounding against hers…it was a perfect moment in time.
Maybe the last they’d ever have.
And no matter what happened, he knew he’d never regret choosing Lane over Heaven.
Not for a fucking second.
I love you, he thought, struggling to put words to what he was feeling.
I know, she thought back at him. I love you, too.
CHAPTER 23
“How did you even get your hands on these things?” Harper asked.
Benny handed Lucien the bowl of holy oils, herbs, and leaves required to summon angels. He raised a brow at Harper. “You do not want to know.”
She opened her mouth, but snapped it shut when Riddick laid a hand on her arm and shook his head. She let out a gusty sigh. “Fine. But are you sure this will work, Lucien?”
The summoning spells? Yes. The rest of the plan?
Fuck no.
“I’m sure.”
Mischa crossed her arms over her chest. “You’re a shitty liar.”
Hunter wrapped an arm around his wife’s waist and pulled her against him. “It’ll be fine,” he assured her. Then he cut his gaze to Lucien and gave him a glare sharp enough to slit his throat.
It better fucking be fine, that look said.
Lucien wished they could do this somewhere else. The gymnasium at Section 8 was a great size, but there was something that just felt…off about summoning angels to a place where sweaty students had been playing volleyball an hour earlier.
The fact that two vampires, a psychic, a halfer, a demon, several dhampyres, and a large hellhound named Fluffy were in attendance was also strange.
But Lucien was learning to roll with strange here at Section 8. This was Lane’s world, after all. And since Lane was his world, he’d just have to get used to everything else that came with her.
Harper had asked Tina to evacuate all the students to the Vampire Council’s headquarters for safety, but all of Harper’s main staff was here.
Adrianne and Gabriel were there with Fluffy, who was on a rhinestone-studded leash that looked way too thin to actually contain such a beast. But Fluffy seemed content just to sit at Adrianne’s feet and gaze up at her adoringly. Apparently, the creature never left her side. Never, her husband had confirmed with an eye roll.
Along with Benny, Harper, and Riddick were Nikolai, Quinn, Seven, and her husband, Lucas, the wolf shifter. Haven was there, too, much to Riddick and Harper’s chagrin. But as it turned out, denying Haven pretty much anything she wanted was not an easily accomplished task.
So, just about every type of mystical being in the dimension was here. If this plan went horribly awry, Section 8 could lose all their instructors, which would be devastating to the organization. It’d probably shut them down for good.
Well, he’d just have to make sure that didn’t happen.
