I nodded. I knew her trauma was speaking loudly right now. By the time I got her where I wanted her mentally, she would give me whatever I wanted. “That’s okay. We gon’ do whatever you wanna do. When my ankle heals a little more, I want to take you horseback riding. I want to officially introduce you to my family as mine. Plus, I can’t wait to meet your family.”

She smiled slightly and looked away from me. I gently pulled her chin so she would turn back to me. “I’m not saying any of that has to happen any time soon. I just want you to know what my goals are.”

“Thank you for being patient with me. I know it’s gonna take some getting used to, because I can tell you aren’t typically a patient person. I had to threaten to get them to assign you another therapist for you to stop flirting with me.”

I chuckled. “I’m glad you did because I wasn’t mentally ready then anyway. While I’m not one hundred percent right now, I’m better than I was… much better.”

She brought her hand to my face and gently stroked my cheek with her thumb. “I have to go, baby. I have to get to my sister’s place to get my baby. I’m already an hour later than usual.”

“I understand. I wish you could stay all night. I know those days will eventually come.”

“Jacob, I attach quickly. If what you’re showing me is genuine, you’ll be meeting LaTee before you know it.”

“Well, I can’t wait to meet her then.”

My phone rang, interrupting our intimate time. I rolled my eyes and pulled it from my pocket, silencing it. When I saw it was Ashanni, I figured she was calling to see how everything went. I’d call her back once Mekayla left.

“That was my cousin. I’ll call her back after I walk you out.”

Before I could slide the phone back in my pocket, it rang again. I frowned slightly and saw Ashanni’s number again. Hmm. “Maybe I better answer now. Ashanni doesn’t call me often.”

Mekayla nodded then went to the couch to gather her things.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Jacob. We need you, cuz. Milana just got into it with her boyfriend, and he pushed her to the ground. She didn’t want to call her parents because?—”

“Where are y’all?”

“We’re at the Exxon on College and the freeway in Beaumont, right next to Chick-fil-A.”

“Okay. I’ll be there in a little bit.”

I ended the call. I didn’t know why the fuck they called me. Everybody knew how I felt about niggas who put their hands on women. Maybe that was why they called me, but they were going to get me locked up for real. I walked over to Mekayla and helped her take her things to the car. She turned to me after putting her bag in the back seat.

“Today was amazing, Jacob. Thank you. I’ll call you when I get home.”

“It was beyond amazing. Thank you for giving me a chance. I’ll be looking forward to your call.”

I kissed her lips, and before I knew it, my hands had roamed her body, finding her ass. I gripped that peach and couldn’t wait to experience it all over again. I would have to open up the master suite for that shit.

“Milana, you of all people know not to let a nigga manhandle you. You Tiffany daughter. Fuck that nigga up next time,” Ashanni said.

I slowly shook my head. Of course, by the time I got here, that nigga was gone. “Cuz, listen. I don’t even care what happened and why y’all were arguing. Ain’t no way he should be putting his hands on you that way. None! You hear me?”

She nodded as tears fell down her cheeks. I pulled Milana in my arms and kissed her head. “There is nothing for you to be ashamed or embarrassed about. You need to tell Aunt Tiff and Uncle Ryder what’s going on. You know they gon’ have your back.”

She shook her head. “I can’t. I don’t want to see their disappointment.”

“Girl! Uncle Ryder gon’ try to find that nigga!”

“This shit is my fault! I cheated on him.”

She pulled away from me and left me and Ashanni stunned. I didn’t know she was the cheating type. Regardless…

“Milana, I don’t care if you fucked his brother. He should still keep his hands to himself. How did he find out anyway?”

Her eyes widened somewhat. “He saw me leaving his house. When I found out he’d cheated on me, I literally did fuck his brother.”
