Anna turned back around and rested her chin on Tom’s shoulder, staring at the wall. Alex’s rings were gone. She felt... empty. And sad. The punishment had been severe, but she hadn’t imagined he had done so much to her that her rings had come out.

He sat in a large room, two stories high, walls lines with books. His blond hair was longer than she’d seen it before and was unkempt. He also had several days’ growth of golden beard on his face. He hunched over a heavy wooden desk with the largest book Anna had ever seen in front of him. Her heart leaped involuntarily when she saw him.

She tried to calm her heart and still her fluttering stomach. She didn’t want to be happy to see him. But she was. Maybe she could escape without him seeing her...

No. He looked up, his cobalt-blue eyes widening with surprise, then softening with affection.

“Schatzi...” His voice was as tender as she remembered, a gentle, but tired, smile on his handsome face. He pushed the giant book away from himself and her. “I miss you.”

Her brows drew together. How could he miss her? He hated her.

“It’s good to see you, mein Schatz. Are you okay?”

She bit her lip. Should she tell him about the missing rings? Would he be angry?

“Anna?”

Her lips parted and she took a step back, shaking her head. If Alex had removed Devin’s rings, Devin would be furious. Why wouldn’t Alex be the same way? She stepped back and something hard gave way behind her.

Anna’s eyes flew open in the darkness of the hotel bedroom. Devin snored softly next to her.

Oh, Alex! He’d looked at her in her dream the same way he’d looked at her before he had left for Germany. And it was like a knife in her heart.

She scooted toward the center of the bed, snuggling closer to Devin. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her even closer, but it wasn’t the same. As much as she wanted to deny it, she missed Alex terribly.

Chapter 103

Sunlight peeked along the edges of the curtains, gently letting Anna know morning had arrived. Her head and hand rested on Devin’s bare chest. His breathing told her he was still asleep, so she slid her hand down his chest and belly to his semi-hard cock. She stroked him up and down, slowly but firmly—the way he liked it.

Several hours later, the large group was exploring the National Mall. Anna gaped at the old buildings and wondered if she’d get to go into any of the museums. But Tom proposed lunch and Devin agreed, so they headed to one of the Pendleton family’s favorite restaurants.

As they were about to walk inside, Anna’s phone rang and she dug it out of her purse.

Devin raised his eyebrows. “Who is it?”

“Kurt.” She glanced up at Devin, who nodded.
