“Are you okay?” Chase asked.

She blinked several times as if she’d become dizzy and stared at the wound. “Master . . .” She

closed her eyes and swayed. Ethan and Richard both reached out to keep her from falling. She

winced.

Richard studied Sabrina and then pursed his lips. “We need to get you somewhere private,” he

said in a low voice to Chase. “I want to see that wound.”

They agreed on Grace’s house since it was the closest.

Chase stood and swayed as the earth gave way beneath his feet. “What the hell is wrong with

me?” he muttered.

Ethan caught him before he fell. The world around him spun wildly and everything went black.

Sabrina studied the ground as she walked with Richard to Grace’s house a few blocks away. The

medics had wanted to take Chase to the hospital after he passed out, but Richard had insisted on him

going to his mother’s house. It took some persuading, but he’d gotten them to agree. Ethan and Casey

rode in the ambulance since they could carry him upstairs to a bedroom. Grace and Kathy were a few

feet ahead of Sabrina and Richard.

Richard was troubled, as was she, but she didn’t understand why.

“What did you see, Sabrina?” Richard asked softly.

Sabrina shivered. “I saw my Master. He wounded Chase.” She chewed her lip. “I don’t know

why I know that.”

Richard walked silently for a few minutes, a thoughtful expression on his face. “I think we’ll

know more once we hear Chase’s story.” He looked down the street where the flashing lights of the

ambulance signaled they’d arrived at Grace’s brownstone. “I don’t think a hospital would help him.”

Sabrina didn’t disagree. Normally, she just felt the ability to heal, but not this time. What if she

couldn’t heal Chase? Would he die? She shuddered.

Richard put his arm around her shoulders. “He’ll be okay, Sabrina.”

She looked up, saw the confidence in his expression, and sighed. “Why couldn’t I heal him?”

“I wouldn’t let you do that in public. It wouldn’t be a good idea.”

“Did you stop me?”

He shook his head. “Perhaps you unconsciously knew I wouldn’t approve.” He smiled, lightening
