to the couch and pulling Sabrina into his arms. He sat down and held her against his chest.

“She was in the shower and she screamed.” Ethan stood and closed the door softly before

returning to the couch.

“Are you okay?” Chase asked, cupping her chin.

His gray eyes were full of concern and love, and tears filled her eyes. “I was scared,” she

whispered. He hugged her close. She leaned her head against his warm, broad chest and closed her

eyes.

“What were you afraid of?”

She pulled away when she remembered she was soaking, but he pressed her head back. “Don’t

worry about the water. Tell me what happened.”

With a shaky voice, she told him about her cravings and the memory. His arms tightened around

her at the end.

“He fucked a girl in the eye?” Ethan asked, his voice full of shock and disgust.

Sabrina nodded. “Yes. It was horrible.” She shuddered, remembering Khyan yelling at her to

watch. She swallowed back vomit. Or tried to, anyway. She wrenched herself away from Chase and

lunged for the small trashcan under the vanity.

When finished, she slumped to the floor, trembling. Chase sat down next to her and pulled her

onto his lap again.

“I’m sorry you had to see something like that.”

“The memory’s never been so vivid before,” she said with a shudder. “It was like I was back

there all over again.”

Sabrina felt something soft on her shoulders and looked up to see Ethan placing a blanket around

her. “Thanks.”

He nodded with a soft smile and then backed away.

Chase pressed her head against his chest, and she let out a deep breath as the tension released

from her body. He rocked her gently and kissed the top of her head.

“Are you okay to go to the Gala or do you want to go home?” Chase asked after several long

minutes of calming silence.

“I need to go to the Gala.” She gave a wry smile, not wanting to leave the comfort of Chase’s

arms. “Duty calls.”
