Chase shrugged.

Grace laughed. “You know her answer. It’s just a matter of formality.”

“But what if—”

She shook her head. “There’s no ‘what if.’ Stop worrying.”

“I suppose. But—” His phone buzzed in his jacket. He pulled it out and his heart turned to lead.

“I’ll be back.” He hurried away, leaving his mother with a questioning look on her face.

“Sabrina!”

Someone called her name as she huddled on the floor, hot water pelting her back.

The water stopped and strong arms wrapped around her. She clung to the arms but couldn’t

escape the darkness.

She somehow pried her eyes open and Ethan’s concerned expression filled her vision. He pushed

her wet hair back from her face. “Sabrina?” His eyes were wide with worry. “What happened?” He

cupped her cheek as she tried to look away. “Look at me.”

She focused on his eyes, blinking several times to clear the remnants of the memory from her

mind.

“Sabrina, talk to me,” he said, his brows pulling together.

“I’m okay,” she whispered and he let out a breath.

She shivered. He grabbed the towel from the rack on the wall and wrapped it around her. She

looked down and saw his tuxedo soaking wet from holding her and kneeling in the shower. “You’re

wet.”

A small smile appeared. “Water does that.”

“I’m okay.” But she couldn’t stop shaking.

He stood and picked her up and carried her to the couch, wrapping his arms around her. “What

happened?”

She let out a shaky breath. “A memory . . .”

“Chase’ll be here in a minute.”

“Why? Isn’t he out front?”

“I texted him.”

Sabrina nodded, then shivered as a chill ran through her body, and Ethan held her close.
