She shook her head and he screamed. “Do it!” Damian closed his eyes and forced the

words into her mind.

He heard her whisper, “I’m sorry,” before the words were forced out of her mouth.

Devin trembled and shook before growing deadly still.

Damian pushed Sabrina aside and studied the blank look in Devin’s eyes.

“I-is he dead?” Sabrina asked in a timid voice.

“No. Well, his body isn’t. His mind is.” Damian picked him up and tossed him onto his

bed and grabbed Sabrina’s wrist. “I have more pain to give you.”

Sabrina’s scream announced their arrival back in the real world. Damian pulled at her until the

strayed to the last time he saw Sabrina. She hadn’t killed him; she’d disobeyed her Master.

The thought made him lose his rhythm and he stopped and started again.

Did Damian know he was still alive? Had he punished Sabrina for it?

Images flew through his mind of her lying on a floor in a broken heap and he lost it. He fell to his

knees and pressed his forehead to the padded floor mat. Great sobs wracked his body and he tore at

his hair. How could he have let Sabrina down? He shouldn’t have taken her to that stupid Gathering.

He should have—

But nothing came to mind.

What could he have done, except hide her away in a closet to keep her safe? And even then, she

wouldn’t be safe. Damian haunted her dreams. She wasn’t safe anywhere except by his and Ethan’s
