But she’d disobeyed. Looking into his eyes, she couldn’t kill the man who made her feel warm

inside. She couldn’t do it.

She disobeyed her Master. He would be furious.

She couldn’t bring herself to kill that man, though. She’d knocked him out and hoped her Master

wouldn’t find out about the disobedience.

Otherwise . . . She swallowed. He might kill her.

But it was worth it. Wasn’t it?

Chase gasped and sucked in a raspy breath. His throat burned on the freezing air. He wrenched open

his eyes. What happened? Why was he laying in the snow? Why was he wet?

A shiver wracked his entire body and he groaned in pain.

“Hurry, Chase, we must get the others into the car.”

His head pounded as he squinted up to see Richard and Theo standing over him. “Wha—”

“There is no time,” Theo said, pointing to Ethan. “Get him into the car.”

Theo picked up Lance as if the six-foot, well-built man weighed nothing, and gently put him into

the back seat. Chase staggered to his feet and helped Richard get Ethan into the seat next to Lance.

The door of Damian’s house opened and Theo waved his hand in the air. “Stay still.”

Chase and Richard froze.

Neil tramped forward, head swiveling back and forth. He stopped a few feet away from Chase

and frowned as he looked at the ground, then pulled his phone out of his pocket. “There aren’t any

bodies . . . No . . .”

Chase glanced at Richard, who held his hand palm out to keep him from talking. Chase turned to

look at Theo, who stared hard at Neil, eyes glittering with disapproval. Chase wondered if the

Immortal could see what had happened to Neil to bring him back to life. Besides the small scar in the

center of his forehead and being a bit pale, he looked like a normal human. How the hell had he

kicked Chase’s ass?

Neil turned and trudged back to the house and Chase let out a breath. “How did he not see us?”

Chase whispered.

Theo grimaced. “I shielded us from his view.” He stared a moment more and shook his head.

“You must go back home. I will meet you there.”

“But—”
