from Damian’s control. She had to be an unwilling accomplice deep down, didn’t she?
Chase’s hand went to his ribs, which ached. Lance had taped his chest to give him support. Theo
had warned physical confrontation would be of no benefit, but that he should be prepared,
nonetheless. The objective was for Chase to connect with Sabrina on an emotional level. Speak to her
heart and he could win her over.
The Immortal had shown up during their planning meeting with Richard, without an explanation of
why he hadn’t come when Sabrina had been taken. Chase hadn’t greeted him kindly which may have
been why the Immortal hadn’t healed him, though he seemed understanding of Chase’s antagonism
toward him.
He hoped Theo was right.
“We’re here,” Lance said, pulling the SUV to the side of the road and shifting into park. He
glanced at Richard, then turned to look at Ethan and at Chase behind him. “You guys ready?”
The two men nodded.
“Remember to be gentle,” Richard said as Chase reached for the door handle.
Chase nodded again, swallowing over the lump in his throat, and pushed open the door. He stood
and stared at the house as Richard, Ethan, and Lance joined him on the sidewalk. Before he could take
a step toward the house, the side door opened and Damian appeared.
Damian arched a brow and an amused smile played at his lips. He stepped aside and Sabrina
stepped out into the morning sunlight.
Chase’s breath caught in his throat. “Sabrina . . .” His voice was low, barely above a whisper, but
she looked in his direction, making his heart race.
“I thought you’d learned your lesson the last time you showed up here uninvited, Chase.” Damian
slowly walked down the snow-cleared walkway toward Chase and the other men. He stopped a few
yards away and crossed his arms. “Do you really want to deal with Neil again?”
“I want to talk to my wife,” Chase answered, lifting his chin.
Damian chuckled and glanced at Sabrina who stood just behind him. “I don’t think she’s
interested.”
Sabrina stood silently, watching him with an impassive expression. She stepped closer to
Damian, almost touching him.
Chase kept himself from grimacing at the apparent intimacy between the two and reminded
