“Did you—”
“Chase, she’s terrified. All she would say is ‘I can’t’ to every question I asked. I even tried using
some Elder skills, but she wouldn’t relax enough for any of it.”
Chase sat up and rubbed his face. “Can I—”
“I think we need to leave her be for a while. Show her we’re different. Then maybe she’ll be
willing to help.”
He pressed his lips together. “I have to find Sabrina.”
Richard’s voice was full of sympathy. “I know. Tom and the others are coming in later this
morning. We will discuss what our next step is and I will let you know.”
“Richard, you can’t expect me to—”
“Yes, Chase. That is exactly what I expect of you.”
Chase’s blood heated and he stabbed the end button. Fuck if he was going to sit around and wait
for the Elders to make a decision.
It was almost six. He’d slept for about an hour but was wide awake now.
Sabrina was gone. Again. Damian had taken her in public with no protest. Well, Chase had
protested, but she would have killed him had Damian not stopped her.
Failure streaked through his veins like fire gobbling up gasoline. He’d not protected Sabrina and
she was lost to him again.
Again.
He clenched his fists, determination replacing the fire of failure. He would get her back this time,
too. Damian couldn’t—
But she’d walked out the door with that bastard willingly.
No! The woman who had left with Damian was not the Sabrina he knew and loved. She’d been
transformed into some Immortal creature he didn’t know.
How could he fight against Sabrina herself? She was Immortal. She was now devoted to Damian.
Hell, she’d wanted to kill him, he’d seen it in her eyes.
How did he fight against that?
He had to try. He couldn’t sit here and wait to see what happened next. He had to act. He was
going to find Sabrina in DC and bring her back.
No matter what.
