would watch over him, making sure he didn’t misbehave.

He pulled out and stood and held Albert’s hand above his head. “Obey him as you obey me.”

“Yes, my lord,” the men below answered in unison.

Neil approached, holding out Damian’s ring. “Are you ready, my lord?”

Damian grimaced and nodded. He had to remove every trace of the Immortalness inside him for

his extended stay in Boston. He could block it for a few hours here and there, but remaining there for

weeks and hiding his true self was something he didn’t have the ability or energy to do. He had to be

in public and appear completely human.

Neil stood behind him and Albert held out the ring. “It is only temporary, my lord,” he said, a

sympathetic smile on his face. “You will return to us soon. More powerful than ever.”

“Thank you, Albert.” He took the ring and looked at it before putting it into his mouth. Neil

grasped his arm and Albert held his hand over his mouth so he couldn’t spit it out. The burning began

a moment later, and he screeched behind the large hand. His head pounded with his heartbeat as the

Immortalness fled up his veins and into his mouth. Golden sparkles filled his vision, and he screamed

once more before blackness overtook him.

Damian’s eyes snapped open. Pale winter sunlight streamed through the window. He winced as he sat

up, blinking and rubbing his eyes. His body ached all over.

He closed his eyes again as dark, bloody images passed through his mind. He wrinkled his nose.

What a terrible dream.

He swung his legs over the edge of his bed and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees,

rubbing his face again. With a sigh, he stood.

And frowned.

Where am I?

Something inside knew this was his bedroom. But he’d never seen the room before.

He shook his head and walked to the mirror over the long dresser across the room. His mouth

dropped open as he stared at himself.

He was old.

Not old. He looked as he always did.

But did he?

Damian leaned forward and stared at himself. He squinted and noticed wrinkles around his eyes.
