“What are you doing home so early?” Ethan said. “Sabrina, it’s Chase.”
She stood and saw Chase appear at the top of the stairs, looking upset.
“Sorry for scaring you. I should have texted.” Chase patted Ethan on the shoulder and walked into
the living room and dropped onto the couch. “I have to go to Japan tomorrow.” He held his arms open
and Sabrina hurried over to sit in his lap. He hugged her tight.
“Japan? Why?” Ethan asked, taking the couch across from them.
“Elder Funeral.”
“Damn.”
Sabrina buried her face in Chase’s chest. “Why do you have to go?”
“All Elders and Elder-Sons have to go when an Elder dies.”
Sabrina closed her eyes wishing he wasn’t leaving. “How long will you be gone?”
“Richard is making the flight arrangements, but he said he’d try and get us home Sunday night.”
“You’re going to miss the performance.”
He kissed her temple. “I’m so sorry, Sabrina. I wish I didn’t have to go. For many reasons.” He’d
been looking forward to the weekend. The performances were held at the studio for a very small
audience. “I’ll be at the next ones.”
“At least they’ll keep me busy.”
Chase stroked her hair. “Maybe you and Ethan can finish buying furniture for the house. It needs
it.”
“I want you to help,” she said with a pout.
Chase chuckled and kissed her. “You are a strange woman, not wanting to go shopping.”
Sabrina shrugged as she buried her face in the crook of his neck.
“I’ll find something to keep her occupied,” Ethan said.
Chase chuckled again. “I’m sure you will.”
“Besides bed, asshole.”
The two men laughed and Sabrina sighed.
He kissed her forehead. “I enjoyed the photos you two sent.”
She sat up. “Did you? They were Ethan’s idea.”
Chase chuckled and glanced at Ethan. “I did. Thank you.” He kissed her hard. “Now I want to see
it live.” He pushed her off his lap and the three of them headed up to the master bedroom.
