When he arrived at the Manor, he went directly to the Elder Room. Inside were several men, all

of whom Chase knew—Richard, of course, Alex and his father, Wilhelm, and Tom and his son

Tommy. Ethan and Theo would complete the necessary seven witnesses for Chase to become

Sabrina’s Master.

“It is good to see you, my friend.” Alex hurried over and greeted Chase with a handshake and hug.

“Where is Ethan?”

“At rehearsal with Sabrina. She has a performance next week.”

“Ah.” Alex smiled. “The joys of being married to a ballerina.”

Wilhelm, Alex’s father, greeted Chase. He and Alex could be twins, save the twenty-five-year age

gap. They had the same fierce-but-gentle-spirit and were known to be some of the most honorable

men in The Brotherhood. It humbled Chase that Alex considered him a friend.

Chase greeted the others.

“You spoke to Sabrina, Chase?” Richard asked.

“I did. And she’s willing.”

“Good.” He turned at Alex. “Alex, you are the one who knows the most about what we’re going to

do today. Why don’t you and Chase go talk, so he has an idea of what he’ll be doing?”

Alex nodded, and they walked out of the room.

“I will guide you through the steps as you are doing them,” Alex said. “But if you know what to

expect before, it is easier.”

“Okay.”

“Are you nervous?”

“A little. You’ve told me before how hard it was when you became Anna’s Master. I don’t want to

hurt Sabrina.”

Alex waved his hand in the air. “That was a ceremony for an unwilling subject. Since Sabrina is

willing, we will use the normal rituals. There should be minimal discomfort. The guardian ritual is

more challenging, more involved, but, again, I will walk you through it.”

“Okay.” Whatever he needed to do for Sabrina, he would do. The men who would be by his side

were men he trusted implicitly. He pushed aside his doubts. This was for Sabrina.

Later that evening, Sabrina sat on her bed in the Manor twisting her fingers together. She wore a white

dress, as usual. Her thoughts drifted here and there, not stopping on anything for long before another
