“We’ll meet at noon for lunch and to go over any last-minute details.” Sydney gave a dismissive nod

and the men around her dispersed.

Chase headed to the door of the hotel room with them.

“Hang on a sec, Chase.”

He stepped aside to let the others pass by. Sydney walked to the well-stocked bar. “Want

something?”

“No thanks.” It was late. He was tired and wanted to go to bed. Tomorrow would be a long day,

with recon in the morning and the job that night. He wanted to be well-rested.

Sydney took her time pouring herself a drink and then sat down on the sectional, legs tucked under

her and one arm spread across the back of the couch. “What do you think of the plan?”

“You’ve always been good at strategy, Syd. It’s a good plan.”

She smiled and pointed to the couch. “Have a seat.”

Chase sat on the edge closest to the door and farthest from Sydney.

“You don’t think Dale is right, that we should go in through the side door?”

Chase shook his head. “No. I’d keep that as a contingency, but going in through the basement is

quicker, especially if your tech guy can keep the cameras dark.”

“Jose is the best tech guy I know.”

Chase didn’t respond. Jose was good, but he preferred working with Corey. Corey didn’t take as

many risks and was less arrogant.

“Sure you don’t want a drink?”

“I’m ready for bed.”

Sydney smiled, the dimple in her cheek making an appearance.

Chase knew that smile. He frowned. “Alone. In my own bed.”

She gave a small shrug. “It can be lonely sleeping alone.”

“It can. But I don’t mind.”

She studied him for a long time, then nodded. “Okay.” She smiled, this time without the dimple.

“Get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Chase stood and quickly left the room. What was that about? She knew he was married. She had a

boyfriend. Why was she acting that way?

Damian smiled at the text on his phone. Sydney had Chase far away from Sabrina.
