Chase nodded slowly. “I could see that.” The guy could charm a snake.

“Do you know him?”

“Not well. Richard and he are business acquaintances.”

“Yes, he mentioned Richard as well, but thought with your military background and current

business, you’d be a better contact.”

Chase did his best to ignore the dread filling his veins as Sydney continued to talk about Damian

as if he were some sort of white knight. He didn’t know why the thought of the two of them together

made him uneasy, but it did. He wasn’t jealous. At all. Sydney was part of his distant past, but he still

cared about her. Damian was a devious snake. At least that’s what his gut told him, and it worried him

to see her completely taken with him. But what could he do? He couldn’t come out and say it.

Maybe he hated the guy because of what he’d done to Sabrina. Maybe he wasn’t as bad as he

“But it’s so pretty. And I love it so much.”

“More than Chase?” Ethan laughed.

“Of course not!” Sabrina punched Ethan in the arm and breezed past him to walk inside after he

unlocked the door. “I just—” She froze when she heard female laughter coming from Chase’s office.

“Who’s here?”

Ethan frowned and shrugged. “Dunno.” He headed for the office door, but before he got there, it

opened and a familiar tall brunette stepped out, laughing. Chase was right behind her, laughing as

well.

“Sydney?” Ethan said, confusion on his face. He frowned at Chase.

Chase put his hand on Sydney’s shoulder and Sabrina winced. “Sydney has a work problem that

I’m helping her with,” Chase explained, sliding past Sydney and wrapping his hands around Sabrina’s
