She shook her head. “I work with the military sometimes, but I got out about a year ago. I like the

freedom better.”

Chase nodded. She had always been a bit of a free spirit. Surprising, considering how well she’d

done in school. “There are benefits to having more freedom with your time.”

“Many benefits.” She took a sip of her drink. “I hear you got married.”

Chase grinned. “I did. A few weeks ago.”

“Didn’t think you wanted to get married.”

“Things change.” He hadn’t wanted to then but had to. Then he met Sabrina.

“What’s that smile for?”

Chase shrugged. “I’m thrilled I got married.”

“Where’s the lucky girl?”

“She was dancing—” Chase looked around and spotted Sabrina by the table, watching him. He

waved, and she nodded. “Over by Kathy. You remember Richard and Kathy?”

Sydney nodded. “Wasn’t he always after you to get married?”

“Yeah. Finally got through to me.”

“That’s a shame. A man like you should be free to explore and do as he pleases.”

Chase frowned. “I am free to do as I like. And I like being married.”

Sydney laughed. “Give it a few years. You’ll be bored soon enough.”

Chase shook his head. Not likely with Sabrina.

“I was wondering if we could meet up sometime this week. There’s something I’d like to discuss

with you.”

He watched as Sabrina weaved her way to him, his heart happy. “Sure.” God, she was beautiful.

Men stopped as she walked by and stared. She didn’t notice, her eyes locked on his. “Have fun

dancing?” he asked as she stopped at his side.

She nodded. “My feet started hurting.”

“Why aren’t you sitting down then?” Sydney asked in an icy voice.

Chase shot Sydney a look, and her eyes widened with innocence as she shrugged. Chase

introduced the two women, who eyed each other suspiciously.

Suddenly Sydney gave him a bright smile. “I’ll call you tomorrow to set up a time to meet, okay?”

She patted his arm and strode away.
