Sabrina turned in Chase’s arms and smiled at Jayson. “You did great tonight. I always love that

last scene.”

Jayson grinned. “Thanks.” He looked out toward the stage. “Ready?”

Chase released her, and she smoothed her hair and costume nightgown. “I think so.” Her stomach

churned as she waited to take her turn, always nervous that the audience wouldn’t be pleased with her

performance.

Chase kissed her temple. “I’ll be right here.”

When it was their turn, Jayson took Sabrina’s hand and led her out into the blinding spotlights. She

tried not to squint as her eyes adjusted, and she dropped into a low curtsy when they arrived at the

center of the stage. She beamed as the audience cheered.

Life is perfect.

Several hours later, around midnight, Chase stood in the marble entryway of the Manor, wondering

what the night would hold for him. He tapped his foot, and the sound echoed around him. He

swallowed and glanced at the heavy wooden door.

No. He was no coward. He would face whatever came his way tonight.

He and Richard had talked briefly about what would happen, but Chase had put most of it out of

his mind. There had been so much to do, so many decisions to make this week, tonight was the last

thing to waste thoughts on. But now that the moment was here . . .

He ran his hand through his hair. He knew parts of the rituals involved showing submission, as

“Chase. Did you have a good time?”

He spun around to see Richard walking down the stairs toward him wearing his white tunic and

pants. “Yeah.” Chase looked down at his jeans and sweater. Should he have changed while waiting

“Really?”
