play. She leaned against Chase and closed her eyes, wishing her desires would go away.
The applause made her jump. The orchestra played a few notes, then Mark began to play and
Sabrina couldn’t move. The music swirled around her like satin ribbons, and she was caught in his
spell. For nearly seven minutes, he held the audience, and dancers backstage, hostage with his music.
When the last notes faded into the silence, she blinked and looked back at Chase. “Wow.”
He, too, seemed to be coming out of a trance and blinked several times. He smiled. “Now you
know how I feel when I watch you dance.” She shook her head, but he raised his eyebrows. “No.
Really. It feels just like that.”
“And you’re sure he’s not part Immortal?”
Chase shook his head. “Not that I know of.”
She leaned forward to see in front of the heavy red curtain. Mark bowed as the audience shouted
their appreciation. He looked normal, but there was something unearthly about his playing.
Sabrina shook her head, trying to clear it, and smiled up at Chase. He leaned down and kissed her
cheek as the first notes of the overture rang through the auditorium. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“You’re not staying?”
“I have to get some work done, so I’m not distracted on our honeymoon.”
She supposed it was a fair trade-off.
“I’ll pick you up for an early lunch tomorrow, okay?”
Sabrina nodded and gave him one last smile before walking out onto the stage.
Chase watched Sabrina walk away and turned to Ethan. “You sure you’re okay?”
Ethan nodded. “I’m sorry I got upset.” He looked past Chase and onto the stage. “I’d love to do
what she wants, but I can’t right now.”
“With me?”
He nodded. “Or her.”
“I understand.”
“Thanks.”
“Are you okay if she needs help?”
Ethan chewed his lip for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, I can do that. As long as it’s just helping
like I did last time.”
“I think she needs it tonight. She practically said as much before we came out here.”
