“That it does.” Chase kissed Sabrina’s cheek. “You’re doing great. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
Sabrina’s heart jumped. “Where are you going?”
He squeezed her hand. “I’m going to talk to Ethan for a few minutes.”
“Okay.”
Chase stood, nodded to his mom, and walked out of the room. Sabrina sensed a bit of unease with
him, which made her worry. Was Ethan in trouble?
Sylvia started asking Sabrina questions. She forgot about her worries as she answered questions
such as her favorite color, what sorts of things she liked to do, what books she liked to read.
Chase walked into the hallway and down the stairs to Casey’s suite of rooms.
He stopped in the doorway of Casey’s small living room. Ethan and Casey lounged on the couch
watching television. They both laughed at some inane joke.
Chase cleared his throat and Ethan looked up.
“Hey.” Ethan reached for the remote and muted the show. “What’s up? You done already?”
Chase shook his head. “Can we talk for a sec?”
Ethan arched a brow. “Sure.” He tossed the remote to Casey and followed Chase upstairs to the
study he’d been in earlier that morning. Chase sat down and motioned to the chair nearby.
“Am I in trouble?” Ethan asked with a laugh.
Chase forced a smile as he leaned forward.
Ethan gave him a sideways glance. “Shit, man. What’s wrong?”
