Page 110 of Master of My Life

“Richard suggested we get married sooner than January.”

She sat up. “I thought we had to wait. Make it a big deal.”

“After what happened last night, we need to be more proactive. Your Master wouldn’t expect us

to elope.”

“Elope?”

Chase shrugged. “Well, we don’t have to run away, but we can get married without a big

ceremony. A few friends and us. Keep it a secret until it’s over.”

Small sounded so much better than the big production Chase had mentioned the previous night.

The tension in her shoulders began to dissolve. “I think I like that idea.”

He smiled. “I can tell.”

“When?”

“What about next Monday? It gives me enough time, hopefully, to find a new place for us to live

and for you to find a dress. Then we can have a few days to ourselves before you go back to

performances.”

“Next Monday . . .” Sabrina smiled. At last she would be married to Chase. Bonded and

protected. “Let’s do it.”

The door burst open. Chase tensed and shoved Sabrina behind him. Ethan moved to a fighting stance.

It took Chase a moment to recognize Jayson standing in the doorway staring at him.

“Chase!” Jayson sprinted over to the couch and then stopped short next to the coffee table. “I just

heard—” He blinked several times, eyes red, and swallowed. “I—are you okay?”

Chase stood and pulled Jayson into a hard hug. “I’m fine, Jay. Really.”

Jayson pulled back and searched his friend’s face. “You sure?”

Chase nodded. “I am.”

Jayson looked back and forth between Sabrina and Chase, then collapsed on the coffee table and

ran his hand over his face. “Okay.”

Chase glanced at Sabrina, who watched Jayson as she settled back on the couch. Chase sat down

next to her and put his hand on her knee.

He didn’t want to go into details about what happened and worry Jayson any more than he was.

“We picked a wedding date,” he said, trying to change the subject.

“Really?”
