“It was a good idea at the time, but after last night, I believe time is more of the essence than

show. Sabrina’s Master knows you two are engaged and what that result will be. We need to catch

him off guard. He’ll be expecting a large celebration. If we do it sooner—secretly—we will surprise

him, and there will be little he can do. You will be bonded and Sabrina will be more secure.”

Chase contemplated Richard’s suggestion. “Don’t you think Sabrina would be disappointed not

having a big wedding?”

Richard laughed. “She’s not a normal woman. She might prefer a smaller one.”

“True.”

“There is one more thing you can do to give more protection.”

“Richard. No. I can’t do that to her. I don’t want to be her Master. You said the marriage bond

I’ll do it if it means she’s safer.”

“I know you do. Becoming her Master adds other elements that could make things harder in the

end, too. There is no good answer, Chase.” He exhaled. “Let’s start with marriage.”

Chase nodded and closed his eyes.

“How quickly do you think you could plan a wedding? Quietly?”

“Mom’s already enlisted a wedding planner. We’re supposed to meet her on Monday.”

“Okay. The sooner the better.”

“Maybe we should just elope.”

Richard laughed and then paused, looking thoughtful. “That could be the better option. It would be

a complete surprise to him.” He smiled. “Talk to Sabrina this afternoon. See what her thoughts are,

then let me know.”

Sabrina opened her eyes when she heard the knock on the door. She’d lain down on the living room
