breast, his breath catching in his throat. She shifted and the back of his thumb touched her. He blinked
and took a gulp of air, trying to gain some semblance of control, but before he could, she wrapped her
arms around him and kissed him hard.
The bottom of his palm was so close to her breast. All he had to do was pivot it a quarter-inch
and he could take it into his hand.
He groaned as her tongue slid between his lips. She tasted of the wine from dinner. His tongue
slid against hers, thrusting oh-so-gently. A tiny movement and I can touch her . . . take her . . . She
moved again, against his hand. His thumb was so close to her nipple. She moaned as she thrust her
tongue into his mouth, teasing his . . .
No!
He tore his mouth away and stood, chest heaving and mind spinning. He sucked in deep breaths
and interlaced his fingers on top of his head as he strode across the room to the window. More than
anything, he wanted to walk back to her, throw her down on the couch, and fuck her senseless.
“We can’t, Sabrina,” he said, his voice as strained as his body. He didn’t trust himself to turn
around and look at her. “God knows I want to, but I love you too much to sacrifice it all now.”
Sabrina leaned forward, hands clenching the edge of the couch. Her heart pounded so hard her
temples throbbed in pain.
She stared at the floor, tears streaming down her face and dripping off her nose. He was right. He
loved her. She loved him. More than anything in the world, she wanted to marry him and be with him
forever.
She’d played with him, tried to seduce him. Guilt burned white-hot in her chest. She’d tried to get
her own way and had nearly destroyed everything. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, her voice cracking.
“Why are you sorry?” The couch shifted as he sat down again.
“I tried . . . to get you to . . . be with me . . .” She closed her eyes and clenched her fists, digging
her fingernails into her palms. “I’m a temptress,” she whispered. “I shouldn’t tempt you.”
“Sabrina, you didn’t do this. It’s as much my fault as yours.” He kissed the trails of tears on her
cheeks. “Hey. It’s okay. Really.” She frowned and tried to shake her head. “Sabrina, you can’t seduce
me like an Immortal, remember?” He smiled. “You are a beautiful woman and I love you so much. I
want you more than any other woman I’ve ever wanted. And not because you’re Immortal. It’s
because you’re you. I love you.” He kissed her again and then pulled her into his arms.
