Damian would pay for every drop of blood spilled by those he loved.

Chase jumped to his feet and the earth spun. He fell to his knees, red sparkles filling his vision.

“Fuck . . .”

Fabric rustled and a silver light spilled over the ground. “Careful, Chase,” a gentle voice said.

“Let’s get you back into bed.”

“Richard?” Chase said, his voice hoarse.

“How are you feeling?” Richard led him back to what Chase could now see was a cot with a

sleeping bag on it.

“Like shit.” He lay down, wincing at the aches all over his body. And his heart. How much more

could he take? “Did you—are you—” He sighed. “Did you find Ethan?” he finally whispered.

“Alex and his men went to go get him, but they couldn’t find him.”

“He’s dead,” Chase whispered wincing at the truth of his words.

“I know. I’m so sorry, Chase.”

Chase clenched his jaw. “Why does this hurt more than losing Sabrina?”

Richard kneeled down next to the bed. “Because Sabrina is only lost for now. We’ll get her

“How do you know?” he growled, his fists shaking at his sides.

“Because we can’t stop hoping or we’ll lose.”

Chase let out a bitter laugh. “You sound like Ethan.” He clenched his jaw as it trembled.

“He was a wise young man.”

Chase sat up and grabbed his head at the pain. “What the fuck is wrong with me?”

Richard put his hand on his shoulder and guided him to lay back down. “You’re hurt. Sabrina

really got you this time. You lost a lot of blood.”

Chase wanted to shout. To yell. To scream. To curl up in a ball and sob. “I can’t . . . Fuck. I can’t,

Richard. He’s won. He’s got Sabrina. He killed Ethan!” He jumped to his feet, feeling every aching

muscle. His legs collapsed and he fell to his knees again. “What the fuck are we gonna do?” He

leaned back and let out a scream of frustration. His body trembled and he let the tears fall down his

cheeks. “I can’t even stand, what the fuck am I gonna do?”

The curtain moved aside, allowing in the moonlight once more and a broad figure moved close.

“Chase.” Alex.
