Damian stood and held out his hands to his side. “Thank you, my brothers, for your show of

loyalty. And now, the final gift . . .” He turned and held out his hand.

A young blonde woman was pulled from the back of the platform. She was pregnant.

“What the hell is going on?” Chase whispered from behind clenched teeth.

“The Immortal baby,” Tom said in a low voice and shook his head. “He sacrifices it and

consumes it. Devin did the same thing to Anna. It will give him more power.”

Chase put his hand over his mouth and swallowed back vomit. He’d seen a lot of things in his life,

but eating a baby? Chase shuddered.

Sabrina helped the pregnant woman onto the table and leaned her back, brushing her forehead

gently. She spoke to the woman, who shook her head. Sabrina nodded and kissed her forehead. The

woman relaxed and brought her heels to her hips, spreading her legs for all to see.

Tom looked back at Chase and Richard. “We must stop him.”

The men nodded and for a moment, Chase wondered if the ten Elders could do anything against all

the other world Elders. But they had to try.

Wearing their white robes, the Elders made their way down the hill toward the crowd.

“Stop!” Tom shouted in a commanding voice.

Damian paused, his hand outstretched toward the pregnant woman. A wicked smile appeared on

his face. “I was wondering when you were going to show up.”

“You cannot do this. I forbid it.” Tom seemed to grow taller and broader as he spoke. “You have

no authority in this land.”

“I don’t?” Damian motioned to the Elders around him. “I think they might disagree.”

Chase noticed for the first time the other American Elders standing behind Damian. Wearing

black? What happened to their white robes?

The Elders in white stepped onto the platform. Alex, Tommy, Peter, and Chase moved closer, but

there was little they could do to help.

Tom, Richard, and the other Elders in white spread out and chanted in unison. The Elders in black

were still at first and Chase’s stomach clenched. But Brandon blinked and Javier squinted and

grabbed his head.

Chase let out a breath. It was working! Whatever they were doing was having an impact.
