his awaiting SUV. Lance hopped behind the wheel and tore away from the curb and down the street.

“How long was I out?” Chase asked, wincing as he pulled himself into a sitting position.

“I don’t know,” Ethan said rubbing the back of his head. “We only just woke up before we got you

up.”

Chase frowned. “Why didn’t he kill us?”

Ethan shrugged. “Who knows? But I’m glad he didn’t.”

“Me, too.” Chase squeezed his eyes closed. The light made the pounding in his head worse. He

groaned as Lance drove over a bump in the road and opened his eyes. “Are you guys okay?”

Ethan nodded. “I think one of my ribs is cracked, but we’re okay. Don’t think he was particularly

interested in us.” He chuckled. “Your face looks like it’s been through a meat grinder.”

Chase grimaced. “Feels that way, too.”

“Think you need a hospital?” Lance asked, glancing at him in the rearview mirror.

He could certainly use some pain killers but they would dull his mind as well as the pain, and he

needed to think. “No.” He closed his eyes again.

“You sure?”

Chase didn’t need to open his eyes to know Ethan was looking back at him with a frown. He knew

that tone oh-so-well. “I need to think.”

“About what?”

“How the hell is that guy alive and how did he kick our asses?” Chase thought back to Neil’s face.

His eyes. He had Immortal in him. That’s what those gold flecks had to mean. That’s the only way he

could still be alive and so strong.

He’d shot the guy in the face. And there hadn’t been gold flecks in his eyes when Chase shot him.

“How did Damian bring him back to life? Or does he have an Immortal under his thumb?”

“Yeah. Sabrina,” Ethan said sadly.

“No. There has to be another. She wasn’t on his side when I killed him.” Chase was quiet for a

few minutes. “Didn’t Sabrina mention another Immortal when we were questioning her after her

kidnapping?”

“I don’t think I was there when you guys were talking about that.”

Chase thought back to that day and pain stabbed his heart. He’d rescued her then. He’d found her

and rescued her. After days of being tortured though.
