Ethan arched a brow and crossed his arms over his chest. “Triple date?”

“Sydney. They’re apparently engaged.”

Ethan’s eyebrows shot up and Sabrina stared. “Engaged?”

“That’s what he said.”

Ethan pressed his lips together.

“If we go, maybe I can figure out what’s really going on,” Chase said slowly.

“You’re going to take Sabrina out with him?”

“He was a perfect gentleman at the Gathering, Ethan.”

Ethan grunted.

Chase turned to Sabrina. “What do you think?”

She chewed her lip. “If you think it’s safe, okay.”

Ethan still frowned, but let out a big sigh. “Okay. I’d feel better if I was near.”

“You and Lance can ‘happen’ to be at the same place?”

Ethan chuckled. “Sounds like a plan.”

THURSDAY AFTERNOON , DAMIAN WALKED INTO HIS HOTEL ROOM AND DROPPED HIS BAG ON THE DESK.

Sydney glanced up from her phone as she sat on the couch near the window. “How was your

day?”

“Weird.”

She nodded and looked back at her phone.

Damian sighed and sat down at the desk and watched Sydney for a long moment. She was a human

robot, brought along to give the appearance that he was in a normal relationship and not interested in

Chase’s wife. Last night, they’d had sex, and she’d given every impression that she was in love with
