“You came to him in Syria,” he said with a shrug. “Apparently nothing will keep you two apart.
Even another Elder’s Manor. You kinda freaked out the world Elders.”
She chewed her lip and tried to remember more, but all she could see was the large room and feel
Chase’s sickness. “I don’t remember much.”
“You almost killed the guy who did it.”
Her eyes widened. “I did?” Her jaw trembled. She closed her burning eyes. I’m still a
murderer . . . “You should go,” she whispered, her voice cracking. She turned away from him and
swung her legs to hang off the bed, head hanging low. She didn’t want to hurt him, or anyone else. Her
chest ached like she’d been beaten with a steel rod. She was still dangerous. She thought things had
changed—that she had changed—but they hadn’t.
Ethan moved and hugged her from behind. “Sabrina, don’t you dare start feeling bad about

“I almost killed an innocent man,” she whispered, eyes burning with tears again.
Ethan cupped her chin and forced her to look at him. “Sabrina, you did nothing wrong. Hell, one
of the Elders was about to do the same thing and Chase stopped him, too. The guy, Nigel, did wrong,
but it wasn’t really him. Your other Master is powerful. But now the other Elders can know what’s
going on. Maybe they’ll be able to stop him before he has a chance to . . . do whatever it is he wants
to do. It’s not your fault.”
Tears streamed down Sabrina’s face, and she tried to free her chin. Ethan’s gaze was firm, she
wanted to believe him. But how could she? She almost killed someone! “I’m dangerous.”
“You were protecting Chase.” He released her chin and hugged her to his chest. “It’s okay,
Sabrina. I promise.”
She closed her eyes and tried to believe him.
“You should call Chase,” he said after a few minutes.
Sabrina tilted her head at his stiffened tone. “What’s wrong?” Ethan shook his head and Sabrina
