Ethan growled.
“The Elders are going to meet in the morning. I’ll know more after that.”
“I’d feel better if someone was watching your six.”
“I need you with Sabrina. You know that.”
“I know. But what about Lance? Or Matt?”
Chase rubbed his forehead. He had a feeling Ethan was right, but his pride didn’t want to admit he
needed someone by his side, too. He pressed his fist to his mouth and contemplated the ramifications
if Lance or Matt came to stay with him. They both had day jobs, teaching at the army base not too far
from Boston. Chase knew they’d both do it if he asked. As it was, Corey was monitoring the city and
the ballet studio to monitor the dancers after Sabrina had been kidnapped. He hated to call in his other
guys for his own protection. But if something happened to him, Sabrina would be vulnerable. To keep
her safe, he had to stay safe.
“Chase?” Ethan’s voice broke through his thoughts.
“I’ll think about it.” Ethan didn’t answer, and he could imagine the disapproving look on his
friend’s face. “Ethan, I—”
“Do what you feel you need to, Chase. I’ll have Sabrina call you when she wakes up.” The phone
clicked and Chase pulled it away to stare at the Call Ended message blinking on the screen. Ethan had
never, ever, hung up on him.
When Ethan was worried and afraid, Chase listened.
Sabrina groaned and pressed her fingers to her temples. Her head throbbed with every heartbeat.
Another hand came to rest on top of hers, and she opened her eyes to see Ethan looking down at her,
concern evident on his face. She blinked several times, trying to clear her vision.
“Hey,” he said in a quiet voice. “You okay?”
Sabrina squinted and then sat up, holding her head. “What happened?”
Ethan rubbed her leg. “You don’t remember?” She shook her head, and he smoothed her hair away
from her face. “You passed out in the shower.”
Sabrina frowned. A memory flashed into her mind of a large room filled with men in white robes.
Chase lying on a couch. She gasped. “Is Chase okay?”
Ethan put his hand on her. “He’s fine. You healed him.”
“I did? How? Isn’t he in Japan?”
