exhaled through her mouth, dispersing the poison into the air, now harmless to anyone who might

breathe it in.

Chase gave a shudder and was still. His damp face slowly regained its normal color, and she

sighed in relief. “Chase,” she whispered, running her hands over his soft hair.

His eyes fluttered open and widened. “Sabrina? What are you doing here?”

“You were dying,” she said with a certainty she didn’t understand. She only knew it was true.

“Someone—” Her jaw clenched. “Someone poisoned you.” She kissed his forehead and stood as

anger bubbled up in her chest once more.

She narrowed her eyes as she looked around the room, studying each man’s face to discern his

her head as she stopped in front of him, then hissed and grabbed hold of his neck. No matter that the

man was larger and taller than herself. She held his neck with one hand as if he were a mere twig and

squeezed.

The last thing he remembered was falling and Alex catching him.

“Someone poisoned you,” Sabrina whispered and her eyes grew dark, the pupils disappearing as

anger took the place of her concern. Her chin lifted, and she stood tall in a long white dress, like the

dress she’d worn when she’d healed him in Syria. She looked around the room, staring into each of

the faces of the world Elders. He’d never seen her looking so bold, so sure of herself.

Wait a minute. Is she really here? She’d touched him, he knew she was here, somehow, but this

was an Immortal thing. It had to be. He’d never seen Elders cower in front of anyone, let alone a

woman. But they flinched as she looked them in the eye with an angry gaze.

Sabrina’s gaze locked onto someone and her face twisted with rage. She lifted a finger and hissed
