He blinked slowly and then everything went black.

Sabrina stood in the shower, thinking about Chase. Her heart ached for him so much she could hardly

stand it.

Her head spun suddenly, and she grabbed the wall. Sinking to the floor, she grabbed her head.

Something was wrong. “Ethan!”

The water turned off and Ethan was by her side. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

“I-I don’t know.” She winced as her vision brightened and made her head burn. “Something’s

wrong with Chase . . .” She didn’t know why, she just knew. She reached out for Ethan. “I don’t—”

Bright light filled her vision and she could barely feel Ethan’s arms around her. “I have to go . . .”

Her eyes closed, and she felt light as a feather as the room spun around her. Around and around

Different scents, different sounds. Languages she didn’t know filled her ears, and she opened her

eyes.

She stood in the center of a large room with stone walls, a huge onyx eagle in the back corner. It

Men jumped out of her way. By the time she arrived at the low couch where Chase lay, shaking and

sweating, the room was silent. A large blond man kneeled next to Richard, who had his hand on

Chase’s gray forehead. Alex.

“Move,” she commanded in a soft voice.

Richard looked up. “Sabrina?” he exclaimed, eyes wide with fear. “What—”

“Move.”

Both Alex and Richard scurried out of the way and Sabrina fell to her knees next to Chase. His

face was gray and wet. His robe was wet with sweat and he smelled of something unearthly. A bitter

scent wafted into her nostrils and she cringed. This was the cause of his sickness.

She placed her hands on his chest and forehead and closed her eyes, drawing the poison into her

own body. It burned as it traveled up her arms and through her chest. She inhaled deeply and then
