The older children hugged Chase’s legs, and he patted their heads and said hello. He’d stayed

with Kunze’s a few times when he was stationed overseas and gotten to know the family fairly well.

While they chatted, Chase studied Anna. He’d always thought her a beautiful woman. And she

still was. Sabrina had been a pretty girl, but now that she was all grown up, her beauty rivaled

Anna’s. At least in his own eyes. Anna’s story gave him hope that Sabrina could be freed from her

past and become the strong woman he believed was deep inside her. She’d been making a lot of

progress over the last few months and Chase couldn’t hold back a smile.

“Thinking of your girl?” Alex asked with a chuckle.

Chase shrugged. “Can’t help it.”

Alex glanced down at Anna and slid his arm around her waist. “I know the feeling.”

Anna’s cheeks turned pink, but she rolled her eyes and shook her head with a laugh. “You’d think

after a decade he’d be over me.”

“Never!” Alex exclaimed and pulled her close to kiss her. The baby squealed and giggled and

they all laughed.

“Chase?” Richard asked, raising his eyebrows.

Chase nodded and picked up his suitcase. “I’ll see you all later. You participating this weekend?”

he asked Anna. Sometimes she acted as an Elder-Mistress when it was needed. She was the only one

of her kind that had that choice, bestowed on her by Kronos.

She shook her head. “I’m just here to visit. I’ve never been to Japan, so Ilsa and I are planning a

lot of sightseeing with the kids.”

Alex patted him on the back. “We’ll see you soon.”

Chase followed Richard to the elevators and stepped in behind him. “I used to think Anna was the

most beautiful woman in the world,” he said as the doors slid silently closed.

Richard tilted his head. “And now?”

Chase chuckled. “Sabrina outshines her by a mile.”

Richard laughed. “Ah, love . . .”
