Richard laughed. “You okay with that?”

“Yeah.” He picked up his carry-on and jacket and looked expectantly at Richard. “Shall we?”

Richard’s eyes turned amused. “Of course.”

Chase realized his tone had been harsher than he’d meant to sound, but at the same time, he didn’t

appreciate Richard’s amusement when he was feeling uncomfortable.

He rubbed his face. He needed a nap. He was far too grumpy right now.

They deplaned and found their luggage before locating the black sedan that would take them to

their hotel. By the time they arrived at the hotel and checked in, the two men had only about an hour

before they were due back downstairs for the Elder dinner.

A large crowd which included several children caught his attention. Chase frowned. The hotel

was supposed to be closed to anyone outside The Brotherhood, but when he caught sight of the two

tall blond men, he laughed and walked toward them.

“Alex!” he exclaimed, nodding since his hands were full of luggage and coats.

Alex grinned and waved before putting his arm around his wife who was holding the baby, and

they hurried over. The rest of the group followed, as would have been expected. Alex and Anna were

devoted parents and their five children adored them.

Chase put his suitcase down on the ground as the couple and Alex’s parents approached. He

exchanged a warm greeting with Alex’s parents, Wilhelm and Ilsa, and then turned to Alex.

Alex grinned broadly at him. “It’s good to see you again so soon my friend,” he said as he

extended his hand. The two men shook hands and then Chase leaned down to kiss Anna on the cheek.

“How is Sabrina?” she asked.

“She’s good.”

The look on Anna’s face made Chase realize she didn’t miss the slight hesitation in his voice. She

studied him for a long moment and then smiled gently. “I’m happy to chat with you later, if you need

to.”

“Astute as always,” Chase said with a slight laugh. “She’s okay. I’ve been worried about her, but

it’s been taken care of.”

“So I heard.” Anna smiled. “She loves you very much.”

Chase couldn’t stop himself from beaming. “And I love her.”
