normally is, and then share some of it with Ethan, you retain all your powers. Ethan would be under
your authority.”
Chase rubbed his forehead. “Why does it have to be so complicated?”
“If it were easy, everyone would be a Master.”
“Won’t the other Elders be upset?”
“They don’t have to know right now,” Richard said. “Well, Tom will be there. He knows firsthand
what would happen if we didn’t take these drastic steps.”
“I am almost certain Vamar somehow influenced Devin,” Theo said after a moment of silence.
Richard looked sharply at Theo. “What? Why?”
“Because of how he acquired his power. Because of what he knew. He could not have learned
that all on his own, nor could he have imagined such things. He had many similarities to Vamar,
though he was not as powerful, or as cruel.”
Richard stared. “Not as cruel? Are you kidding?”
“Devin was not banished. Kronos allowed the humans to punish him as they saw fit. With
Vamar . . .” Theo sighed. “I remember the pain and suffering his rule created.” He shook his head.
“Kronos rarely interferes with the mistakes of humans, but that time he felt he had no other choice. He
stepped in and removed Vamar from this world. He should have stayed there.” Theo’s eyes turned
dark. “Someone helped him. I have a feeling it was Khyan but perhaps he realized his mistake and
tried to help in the only way he could. Sabrina could not have escaped from Vamar’s plans
otherwise.”
“And by saving Chase from that fire in his condo,” Richard added.
Theo slowly nodded. “I believe you are correct.”
The room settled into a thick silence. Chase stood and walked to the window. This was the best
way to protect Sabrina, and best for Ethan, too. He didn’t know how Sabrina would react, though
she’d been perfectly content when Richard and Tom were her Masters. Peaceful. He frowned. Was it
her natural state to have a Master? A good Master? Was he denying her something by his refusal?
He ran his hands through his hair. Alex became Anna’s Master shortly after they met and they
married later on, but it hadn’t affected their relationship. Of course, Anna was freed in the end. Would
it be possible, once Sabrina’s Master was defeated, to free her?
This wouldn’t be a temporary bond like Richard had with her. This would be the full thing. He
