“Said he couldn’t mess around anymore because of how he felt about us. Me and Sabrina.” He leaned

forward with his elbows on his knees. “It would keep Sabrina safe? He could keep . . . what

happened last night from happening?”

Theo nodded. “Your presence is blocking her Master from getting to her in her dreams. That is

why . . .” He paused. “Where did you get this job you went on?”

“Sydney, a classmate from West Point, told me she needed help with this job. That Damian had

recommended me.” He shook his head. “We were recovering a little girl.” He sighed and gave a

shiver.

Richard looked startled. “Damian! What does he have to do with any of this?”

“Apparently, he and Sydney are dating.”

Richard frowned. “I wonder if Damian knows who this Master is and is being used somehow.”

“Sabrina said Damian had told her Aiden was using him, but if Aiden was being used by someone

else, why would he be using Damian?” Chase frowned and shook his head. He was too tired to

unravel this puzzle.

“A valid question,” Theo said, a thoughtful expression on his face. “An important question, but we

have a more important matter at hand.”

“Go talk to Ethan,” Richard said softly. “Figure things out between you and come to a decision. If

he’s not willing, we will have to figure something else out.”

“But this is the best option, Chase, if you are willing. His relationship with Sabrina is strong. That

makes an important impact on the bonding process.”

Chase nodded and stood. He felt like he was asking Ethan too much, but at the same time, his

friend would be furious if he didn’t have the chance.

It took Chase a bit of time to locate Ethan. He finally found him on the rooftop deck, staring out over

the city.

“Ethan,” Chase said as he approached the railing where Ethan stood.

Ethan’s jaw clenched.

“I didn’t mean for you to think I don’t want you as Sabrina’s guardian.”

Ethan’s hands tightened on the railing.

Chase sighed. “I do.”

“You do what?”
