She shook her head and held the memory of Chase’s face tightly in her mind.

Master moved back to her feet, pulling her down to lean over the table as Terric had so many

times.

She felt him at her entrance.

No! She had to fight this with everything she had. Or else . . .

Or else something terrible would happen.

She opened her mouth and cried out the name of her beloved and the world went black.

Chase watched Sabrina’s eyes flutter open and breathed a sigh of relief as she sucked in a long breath

and turned her head to him.

“Chase . . .” she whispered and gave him the tiniest of smiles.

He lurched onto the bed and gathered her into his arms, kissing her all over her face and head.

“You came back to me.”

She groaned, and he loosened his grip on her. She lay limp in his arms, not holding on to him as

she normally did. He studied her face. “You’re so pale.”

“I feel pale.” Her voice was so hoarse he could barely hear her.

“Be gentle with her, Chase,” Theo said, putting his hand on his shoulder. “She is back, but she is

weak and in need of healing.”

“I’m sorry,” he said, kissing her once more on the forehead and gently laying her back on the bed.

She gave him a small smile. “I don’t mind.”

Chase smoothed her hair back from her forehead. “Are you in pain?”

“I don’t really feel anything.” She paused. “I don’t feel like myself.” She winced.

Theo and Richard had moved across the room and were talking in low voices. They motioned for

him to join them and he nodded. He kissed Sabrina’s forehead and stood. “I’ll be right back.”

“Where’s Ethan?” she whispered.

“I’m here,” Ethan said in a low voice from the wall.

She wiggled her fingers at him as Chase stepped back from the bed.

A flash of anger spread through his chest as he watched Ethan reluctantly take her hand. If Ethan

had been watching her better . . .

Chase, this is not Ethan’s fault, came Theo’s firm voice in his head. He could have done nothing

to prevent this.
