Chase and Richard went to get drinks for their wives.
“How are you doing?” Kathy asked, peering into her face. “You look radiant.”
Sabrina couldn’t suppress her smile. “I never imagined I’d ever be this happy.”
Kathy laughed. “That’s wonderful to hear.”
She searched for Chase in the crowd and found him and Richard talking near the bar. “I feel so
lucky.”
“I think you deserve a bit of luck in your life,” Kathy said with a smile. “It’s about time, right?”
Sabrina nodded. “It is a nice change.”
They were interrupted by several people wanting to talk to Sabrina and congratulate her on her
dancing. Sabrina’s cheeks warmed as they complimented her. After they finally left, she looked at
Kathy. “That’s so overwhelming.”
“You have been the talk of the social circles since opening night. Add to that your surprise
marriage to Chase . . .” Kathy raised her eyebrows. “You’re quite the topic of conversation these
days.”
“Really?” Sabrina wasn’t sure if she should be flattered or horrified. “I wish people wouldn’t
gossip about me.”
“That’s part of life around here. Most of it’s not too bad.”
“Most?”
Kathy smiled. “A few mothers were hoping to get Chase as their son-in-law, and that can leave a
bitter taste in the mouth.”
“Oh.”
“They’ll get over it . . . Or they won’t. It’s their choice to stay bitter and ruin their chances of
knowing such an amazing young woman.”
Sabrina looked down at her hands as her cheeks burned.
“Things are going well?” Kathy asked when Sabrina looked up again.
She nodded. “It was a busy month, but at the same time, it was peaceful. Does that make sense?”
“I’m not sure.”
“Well, I mean, I was busy with all the performances, and Chase and I settling into the new
house . . . There’s just so much to do! But, it was so wonderful being able to go home to Chase every
