Only the first row of each side of the center aisle had people in it. She focused on Chase standing
a hundred miles away at the front of the church. She pulled strength from the music and the love in
Chase’s eyes and took her first steps into the sanctuary.
He stood tall and handsome in his army dress uniform, just like the first day she saw him. More
ribbons and pins were on his chest now, though. His hair was a little longer now, too. He bore the
battle scars of honor on his face but she’d never seen a more handsome man in all of her life, waiting
for her at the end of the aisle.
Step . . . step . . . step . . .
Each step was supposed to take her closer to Chase, but it felt like she wasn’t moving at all. She
wondered if he could see the tears welling up in her eyes. She wondered if he could hear her heart
pounding for him. She wondered if he knew how much she needed him. How much she loved him.
When, at last, she and Ethan stopped a few feet from Chase, Sabrina saw everything in his eyes.
Love. Compassion. Hope. A future. Her heart leaped for joy. He gave her his crooked smile and her
heart melted.
Ethan lifted her veil to kiss her cheek and then smoothed it back down before guiding her hand to
Chase’s. He took his seat in the empty spot next to Grace in the front pew. Chase intertwined his
fingers with her own and squeezed her hand. Sabrina glanced up at him and saw him watching her.
The song continued playing, and she gazed lovingly at her handsome husband-to-be.
“You look beautiful,” he said in a low voice. She could just hear him over the music that was
seeping into her soul and making her heart soar.
“You look like the first day I saw you,” she said softly. “Only more handsome.”
“You took my breath away that day.” He tilted his head. “But today, you’ve stolen it.”
She blinked away tears of happiness and squeezed his hand. Sabrina didn’t want to ruin her
makeup, but his words struck her right at the heart. She felt so unbelievably happy she could hardly
contain herself.
Chase felt Sabrina’s small hand in his, felt her presence next to him. He looked around at the church
but still could hardly believe his wedding was finally happening. It had seemed a lifetime ago when
he’d first met Sabrina. Another lifetime had passed before they’d been reunited. He wanted to pinch
himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming, but when he looked to his side and saw his beautiful bride
