“Why would he be mad at something he asked me to do for you?”

“But I—”

“Sabrina, not everything that happens is your fault.” He smiled. “If you weren’t Chase’s girl, and

we’d done that, I’d have—well, let’s just say we wouldn’t be done yet. But you are. And that’s okay. I

enjoyed it. Did you?”

She nodded.

“Good. Let’s go finish the show. Chase’ll come over when he finishes up at work.”

Chase sighed and ran his hands over his face as he shifted into park in front of Sabrina’s apartment.

The job was complete, the files back in their rightful place and his adrenaline flitted back to normal

levels. Now he just wanted to fall into his bed and sleep.

He pushed open the car door and headed up to the apartment. The job hadn’t taken long. He’d

been right about the computer nerd who had taken the files. The guy had seen the potential money to

be made on the dark web if he sold them to the highest bidder but realized his mistake when Chase

had shown up at his apartment and convinced him of his wrongdoing.

Chase chuckled. It hadn’t been difficult. A few precisely toned words, a menacing look or two, a

flash of his weapon, and the guy had been nearly in tears, swearing he’d never do it again. The guy

wouldn’t have a chance to do it again because Chase—or more accurately Malcolm and Jim—would

make sure he never got another job in the industry.

Chase knocked on Sabrina’s apartment door and waited for Ethan to answer. It was later than he’d

wanted to arrive, but he needed to be sure she was okay before he went home.

Ethan opened the door and Chase walked in. Sabrina sat on the couch, her hands clenched in her

lap. He gave Ethan a questioning look.

“She’s afraid you’re upset about what we did.”

He should have talked to her before it happened. Chase sighed and walked over to the couch.

“Hi.” He sat down next to her. “How are you feeling?”

She stared at the coffee table. “Better.”

“You know that’s why I asked Ethan to help, right?”

She nodded.

“I’m not upset with you. Or Ethan. He did as I asked and you feel better. What do I have to be

upset about?”
