He laughed. “Although it is a favorite subject of mine, no, I’m just a boring lobbyist.”

“You hardly seem boring.”

“Why, thank you. That’s one of the nicest things you could say to a boring lobbyist.”

She laughed at the mock-humble expression on his face and decided she liked Damian. He was funny and interesting.

“So, what do you do when you’re not dancing?” he asked.

“Not much. Dancing takes up a lot of time.”

“How did you meet Aiden?”

Sabrina bit her lip. “He’s playing Drosselmeyer.”

Damian nodded. “Ah. That’s right. He told me that. I should have put two and two together.”

Sabrina shrugged and fidgeted with her napkin.

“Are you two dating? I don’t quite understand the relationship between the two of you.”

“No. Not exactly.”

“Fuck buddies?”

“What?” Sabrina looked up. “What’s that?”

Damian laughed. “You’re friends, but you have sex when you need it. Friends with benefits.”

“Oh. Yeah, I guess it’s like that.”

“No real lines are drawn around your relationship?”

She nodded, not knowing what to say.

“I did think it was odd that he said I could have you. You like being shared?”

“I guess he likes it.” She shrugged.

Damian frowned. “What about you?”

Sabrina stared at her empty plate. Aiden hadn’t shared her with anyone. Until tonight. “I’m willing to try it.”

He stared at her for a long time. “Does he have some sort of hold on you? Some sort of blackmail or something?”

She pressed her lips together. She couldn’t tell anyone about their arrangement. “No, not exactly. It’s just... how things are.”

He reached across the table and stroked her arm. “Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”

“It’s hard to explain,” she said finally and looked up at him. “I can’t really say much more.”

“Can I tell you something?” Damian asked, lowering his voice and leaning toward her. “You must promise not to repeat it.”

“You probably shouldn’t say things you’re not supposed to.”

He smiled. “Smart woman. Okay, I won’t spell it out. I’ll just say that I think I know what you’re going through. I think I’m in a similar situation with him.”

Sabrina’s head snapped up. “What?”
